Pedestrian Control at Intersections: Phase III

Principal Investigator(s):

Nikos Papanikolopoulos, Professor, Computer Science and Engineering

Project summary:

This project addresses several issues of pedestrian control at intersections. We have used CCD cameras for pedestrian detection since CCD cameras are able not only to detect a pedestrian but simultaneously track him/her in real-time (tracking can provide significant time-dependent information). The time-dependent information has helped us design adaptable pedestrian phases. Our work will include the development of a PC-based prototype and extensive testing under various traffic patterns will be conducted.
