Human Factors Evaluation of Etak/Delco's In-Vehicle Navigation System

Principal Investigator(s):

Michael Wade, Former Professor and Director, Kinesiology

Project summary:

The objective of this one-year project is to conduct a human factors evaluation of the Etak/Delco In-Vehicle Navigation System. This evaluation will consist of four parts: 1) A static evaluation based on standard human factors design guidelines: 2) A dynamic evaluation using the Human Factors Research Laboratory's wrap-around driving simulator; 3) An on-road evaluation; and 4) An opinion survey for all participants in the other three parts of the evaluation. For the simulation and on-road experiments both older and younger drivers will be used. The data results will be analyzed. The report will emphasize the utility of the navigation system, the ease-of-use of this system, safety liability if any, and recommendations for system improvement.
