High Capacity Manual Unsignalized Crosswalk Level of Service Training

Project summary:

The University of Minnesota worked with Bolton & Menk, Inc. and the Minnesota Department of Transportation to develop a training program for the application of the unsignalized pedestrian crossing methodology in the 2010 Highway Capacity Manual. The Minnesota Traffic Observatory (MTO) at the University of Minnesota assisted in collecting data for analysis at four sites with differing traffic volumes, crossing types, and pedestrian volumes. The data collected was used by Bolten and Menk to develop training curriculum and a 10-12 page guidebook. The Center for Transportation Studies (CTS) at the University of Minnesota provided editorial and graphic design services for the final publication of the training guidebook. CTS also planned the required logistics for delivery of a four-hour training session for up to 30 participants.
