Project summary:
The key components of the future traffic operations center are being tested with the establishment of the I-394 field laboratory and its connection with the ITS Laboratory. Responding to the need to demonstrate integrated traffic operations modules that employ these laboratories, several algorithms and methods have been developed, modeled and evaluated.
The goal of this research is to develop an ITS lab pilot that integrates modular traffic management emulation tools and leads toward a future traffic operations center. Specific objectives of the integrated tools include parameter extraction for adaptive traffic management using machine vision, development of adaptive area control, integration of the components for area control, demonstration of adaptive regional traffic management by integrating freeway ramp and signalized intersection control, priority corridor control, and incident detection.
