Project summary:
Traffic safety and saving people's lives using Minnesota's transportation systems is a major focus of Minnesota's Department of Transportation (MnDOT), Department of Public Safety (DPS), and Department of Health (MDH); the U.S. Department of Transportation; the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA); the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA); the Center for Transportation Studies (CTS); and a number of private sector foundations, non-profits, and advocacy groups. In 2003, the Toward Zero Deaths (TZD) program was formed to coordinate and focus traffic safety initiatives in Minnesota. Through a contract with the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) within DPS, CTS provides ongoing administrative support and coordination for the TZD program.
