Project summary:
Preserving the lives and safety of Minnesota's transportation systems users is a major focus of the Minnesota Departments of Transportation (Mn/DOT) and Public Safety, the US Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Center for Transportation Studies (CTS), and numerous private sector foundations and associations. In January 2002, a Toward Zero Deaths (TZD) Program Team was formed to coordinate and focus traffic safety initiatives in Minnesota. Representatives from the Mn/DOT, Department of Public Safety's Office of Traffic Safety, Minnesota State Patrol, FHWA, NHTSA, county engineers, CTS, and community coalitions are members of this program team. At the request of Mn/DOT and the Office of Traffic Safety, CTS provides ongoing administrative support and coordination and outreach activities for the TZD Program Team.
