Project summary:
The objective of this research is to determine the extent to which the Superpave Level I mix design procedure can be used on lo, volume pavements using locally available aggregates in Minnesota Four coarse aggregate types will be studied: 1. Crushed granite. Crushed quartzite, 3. Crushed limestone, and 4. Partially crushed river gravel. These will be combined with a partially crushed fine aggregate to produce both fine (above the restricted zone) and coarse (below the restricted zone) gradations. Mixtures containing unmodified asphalt binder will be compared to those with a polymer modified binder. The mixtures will be tested for moisture sensitivity rutting susceptibility, and cold temperature behavior.
