Re-Assessment of Road Accidents Data Analysis Policy in Minnesota

Project summary:

While airplane crashes are studied and scrutinized from all angles to determine how such disasters can be prevented, much more systematic data analysis of road accidents is needed for the same reasons. We believe road accident data analysis can offer an improved understanding of how auto accidents can be reduced and avoided. This research will address two questions: I) What more can be learned from Minnesota's already existing road accident data? It seems that accident data is not being used as an improvement initiator when it could be. 2) What data is missing for the purpose of reducing Minnesota's accident rates, and how can this information be collected and better used? Our approach is highly inter-disciplinary, with a combination of research on information an analysis in management theory and on transportation studies.
