Metropolitan Travel Survey Archive; Phase 4

Project summary:

Surveys are important resources that provide valuable information about travel preferences or changes in travel behavior over time across the population; however, they also entail large investments of time and money. To maintain these valuable resources, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics and the Federal Highway Administration, both part of the United States Department of Transportation, funded this project at the University of Minnesota to develop a Metropolitan Travel Survey Archive that stored, preserved, and made publicly available (via the Internet) travel surveys conducted by metropolitan areas, states, and localities. Work continued on the project over the course of three years and, as a result of cooperation from several agencies, the databases were posted along with relevant documentation for many regions. In addition to making these databases publicly available, the project converted these databases to a common format to enhance the readability and usability of each survey so that many surveys can be used online.
