Project summary:
The main objective of this research effort would be to develop a mechanistic-empirical design procedure to be used by the Minnesota Department of Transportation for both new flexible pavements and in the overlay of existing pavements. Considerations would include laboratory and field materials characterization, traffic analysis, climatic effects and pavement performance criteria. Another primary objective of this project is the education of MnDOT pavement designers in the fundamentals and use of the design procedure. This would be accomplished through a series of short courses directed at hands-on demonstrations and follow-up visits to district and central office personnel.
