Innovative Parking Pricing Demonstration Project

Project summary:

In 1999, the Twin Cities Metropolitan Council conducted a study of parking in the Twin Cities and where current parking facilities are located. The Minneapolis and I-494 TMOs have promoted parking cashout programs with Twin Cities businesses and have achieved some success with these efforts. Transit for Livable Communities, a local advocacy group for transit improvement, has examined parking strategies and how different approaches could encourage more use of transit in the Twin Cities. The City of Minneapolis is currently undertaking a major study of transportation with a major focus on downtown, where parking will be a major issue. The timing is right for a fresh look at parking in the Twin Cities, with a focus on innovative parking pricing. This project explores innovative parking pricing strategies that could be implemented in the Twin Cities, including the initiation of one or more parking pricing demonstration projects.
