Project summary:

The general purpose of traffic calming research is to decrease motor vehicle speeds in designated areas and to develop the cost-benefit matrices which will lead to more human scale relationship shifts between motor vehicles and alternative transportation modes such as bicycling, walking and public transit. More specific purposes of this project are: 1) To identify and transfer European and domestic traffic calming practices that include transit, pedestrian, bicycling and roller-blading; 2) To identify Twin Cities metro area jurisdictions willing to become demonstration sites; and 3) To produce cost benefit analyses to aid local planners in selecting appropriate solutions.
