Co-Investigators:

Project summary:

This project will evaluate the performance of a wide-area LIDAR system with regard to its ability to locate and monitor pollutant plume concentrations associated with varying traffic flow conditions. The LIDAR system will scan a sector of the atmosphere near ground level and return data on particulate concentrations. A rendering system will display the LIDAR data as color images overlaid on a GIS map. Additional data on traffic flow, meteorological conditions, Co concentrations, and size-resolved particulate mass concentrations will also be acquired and displayed. Correlations between the LIDAR data and the other parameters listed above will enable MnDOT and others to assess the ability of LIDAR to accurately measure ambient air quality and hence assess the environmental impact of traffic management systems, including PTMS.
