Project summary:
"Built-in" curling is an important input parameter for the Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG). Currently, no comprehensive procedure exists to model or estimate the long-term, effective built-in curling. The project will develop a procedure to determine the built-in temperature gradient from laser profile measurements taken under various temperature conditions. Finite element analysis will be performed to simulate the effect of temperature on the concrete slab profile. Based on field data and finite element simulations, the built-in gradients will be determined.
