CSD Training

Project summary:

Two three-day workshops will be delivered to a wide range of stakeholders. The primary audience for the training sessions will be MnDOT's project managers. Representatives from selected stakeholder groups would also be included as participants or presenters in order to provide a range of viewpoints and persons with varying areas of expertise. Participant materials will be prepared for use during the workshops. A compilation of pertinent articles and reference material will also be available for participants. Together, the training and supporting materials will enhance the key principles of MnDOT's present project development process and integrate certain elements of various other initiatives including project management, environmental education, public involvement, and flexibility in the highway design process. The training workshops will be structured to be interactive with the participants. Local case studies will be used to demonstrate the elements of context-sensitive design. Small groups, working on specific projects, will be asked to develop ideas for implementing context-sensitive design on a particular case study. Participants will be encouraged to share their own experiences and gain input from others on ways to implement context-sensitive design processes into their projects. As a part of each workshop, a recognized leader in Context-Sensitive Design will speak to a larger audience of state and local agency personnel as well as stakeholder group representatives. This allows for a greater number of people to become familiarized with the topic and allow for greater discussion of the current status of the effort particularly from a national perspective.
