Project summary:
MnDOT's Connected and Automated Vehicle Office (CAV-X) is the convening office for the state's
connected and automated vehicle transportation technology engagement, policy, testing and
partnerships. The objective of this project is to provide support that engages stakeholders with an
interest in the deployment of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) in Minnesota. The first
initiative, Drive MN consists of technical and policy-oriented activities aimed at transportation
professionals and elected officials. Two passenger CAVs will be driven on selected state, city and county
routes to destinations throughout Minnesota. Vehicle data will be collected and shared with participants
at each destination to illustrate how CAVs interact with road infrastructure. Combined with sharing
Minnesota's CAV Guiding Principles, the intent of Drive MN is to establish an understanding of CAV
infrastructure and policy readiness. The second initiative, the CAV Conference and Tech Showcase
targets a broader public agency, private industry, academic and policymaking audience. It will focus on
sharing prominent national trends, local policy issues, and CAV technology. The event will feature
discussions about CAV readiness, leveraging information gathered during the Drive MN activities. It will
also feature discussions about policy issues that should be targeted during future engagement efforts.
