Role of Ethics in Engineering

About the Event

This CTS course offering is designed for those interested in learning more about the ethical expectations of transportation engineers and designers and how they must be ethical in their business practices. The two-hour course also provides 2 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) that are needed for engineers to renew their licenses.

Ethics is a frequently discussed topic today. The public expects organizations to conduct their affairs in an ethically and socially responsible manner. Engineers have a responsibility to act ethically and to influence their constituents to act in a responsible manner. Participants in this course will explore a case study and participate in a Q&A session to uncover areas that must be considered.

Course Instructor

Attorney Deborah Mackay, adjunct professor at the William Mitchell College of Law, practiced construction law for 14 years at the Minneapolis firm of Faegre & Benson, where she handled a broad range of construction industry disputes and transactions. She has represented large commercial contractors, design professionals, subcontractors, material suppliers, and project owners. Mackay taught construction law and ethics in the Infrastructure Systems Engineering program at the University of Minnesota and has presented numerous construction law continuing education seminars. She is a past chair of the Construction Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association and a past president of the Construction Financial Management Association, Twin Cities chapter.
